SUPERFRONT presents SUPERHERO: A POP-UP EXHIBIT WITH JIMENEZ LAI, curated by Assistant Curator Jackie Koenig. The exhibit will open with a reception on April 10th immediately following the DIY Public Space Makers panel cohosted by DJ rupture. We currently live in a time where bigger, better, faster and in large quantities seems to be the mantra of technology and commercial architecture, as it is in Lais invented future, yet the moral of each graphic story finds the humanistic approach to architecture as the better option.
Lais scenarios take on both comic and haunting tones: initially the scenes may be brushed off as impossible realities, but with some more thought, their eerie resemblance to the current momentum of architecture concludes that Lais invented future may not be so far ahead.Jimenez Lai graduated with a Master of Architecture from University of Toronto and is currently clinical assistant professor at University of Illinois at Chicago. Previously, Lai has lived and worked in a desert shelter at Taliesin, AZ, and resided in a shipping container at Atelier Van Lieshout on the piers of Rotterdam. Lai has worked for Michael Meredith, AVL, RE X, OMA Rem Koolhaas in Rotterdam and New York. Since 2008, Lai has produced solo installations in LA and Chicago and has been involved as a participant in group exhibitions in Lexington, New York, Boston, Athens, and Toronto. |
