Architect's Eye Photography Exhibition
23.06.2012 - 07.07.2012
Roca London Gallery, Station Court, Townmead Road, London, SW6 2PY, United Kingdom
The exhibition showcases the work of the 19 finalists and winners from the Architects' Eye Competition 2011, split into two categories: Architecture and Place, and Architecture and People. The former focuses on the aesthetics of the architecture and the places it creates, whilst the latter celebrates the interaction of people with the environments created by architecture.
To celebrate the launch of the exhibition, a panel of leading architects, photographers and specialist media will discuss the relationship between Photography and Architecture during a Round Table session on Wednesday 27th of June. The panel will be formed by Simon Allford (Allford Hall Monaghan Morris), Jack Pringle (Pringle Brandon Architects), architectural photographers Luke Hayes and Grant Smith and Building Design Editorial Director Amanda Baillieu.
The discussion will look at the difference in how the architect and the professional architectural photographer approach their subjects, the contrast between the familiarity of the work (architect) and the foreign perspective of the new comer (photographer) and how this different viewpoints can inspire new projects.
The Architect's Eye competition was launched in 2007 by IAC, Europe's leading corporate art advisors, who developed the idea from observing architects' enthusiasm when photographing buildings. Since the competition was launched leading figures from the architecture and photography communities have supported the initiative and taken part in the prestigious judging panel.
The exhibition and the launch event will be hosted at The Roca London Gallery, Zaha Hadid Architects' most recent London project. The design of the Gallery has taken its inspiration from elemental water in all its forms, transforming what was once an ordinary space into a truly exciting new dimension in interiors. |
