Wiel Arets Architects was founded in 1983 and has expanded to become a well-known name both nationally and internationally. It has its roots in the Southern Limburg region and has offices in Amsterdam, Maastricht and Z?rich.STILLS shows the development of the oeuvre, shows the projects, expands upon the theoretical background and offers insight into the sources of inspiration and fascination of Wiel Arets himself. From his very early beginnings to his striking and unique personal vision on the future of urban development exemplified by the utopian 'Zuidstad' model.Attention will also be paid to the product designs created by the multi-talented architectural office, including those created for Lensvelt, Gutzz, Quinze & Milan and Alessi. In six short documentaries, the architect leads the visitor through the cities of Tokyo, Zurich, Berlin and Milan and gives his vision of the future of architecture and urban construction.

Opening:
Friday 17 December / 20:00 hrs / Free entrance
After a word of welcome from director Stijn Huijts, Marc Dubois, associate professor Departement Architecture Sint Lucas Gent & Brussel will give a personal view of Wiel Arets Architects, after which alderman Lex Smeets will perform the opening ceremony. At 21:00 hrs, journalist George Vogelaar will be in conversation with Wiel Arets.
