About Bing Thom ArchitectsVisit Website
Bing Thom Architects (BTA) is an innovative and global architectural practice with a growing emphasis on civic and institutional projects. Founded in Vancouver in 1982, our firm is led by principals Bing Thom and Michael Heeney with a staff of over 45 who originate from a dozen different countries and bring equally diverse language skills and cultural understanding.
We are known for design excellence and the ability to integrate site master planning, architecture and urban design, often with a compelling ‘big idea’ to inspire and engage people and communities. Bing Thom Architects has been the recipient of numerous honours and awards, including the 2011 RAIC Gold Medal, Canada’s highest honour in architecture, and the 2010 RAIC Architectural Firm Award.
While our central design office remains in Vancouver, Bing Thom Architects has successfully executed projects around the world and has international offices in Washington DC and Hong Kong. With an emphasis on both design and building execution, Bing Thom Architects brings together a wealth of understanding in engineering, sustainable building, project management, landscape design, and construction. We are passionate about the positive social and economic value that architectural excellence brings to communities and thrive on complex building types, more often than not integrating a wide range of uses to create a vibrant and sustainable whole. Our buildings are all about maximizing value.
Through the careful selection of materials and contracting methods, we make the extraordinary affordable. Many of our most successful projects have involved challenging urban sites, complex phasing, tight budgets and schedules, coordination with existing buildings including historic structures, community interface and collaboration with multiple stakeholders. We have both mastered these complexities and found unique opportunities to deliver innovative, iconic and sustainable solutions.
