CZWG Architects LLP is a London-based practice with an international reputation for bold and imaginative architecture.
The prolific output of built work covers a broad spectrum of development and building types, including residential, schools, offices and hotels, and ranges in size from large scale urban regeneration projects to the individual house and exhibition design, many of which have won awards. Clients in both public and private sectors have come to value its ability to gain challenging planning permissions in difficult circumstances.
There is a quality that distinguishes its work in the field. The ethos of the practice has always been based on strong design flair and good practical, economic sense. Projects are often based on imaginative responses to their context, but are also about architectural ideas. Each new project develops an identity of its own, whether an evolution of a design theme or a completely new response to perceived needs. And this remains so, even when the need is challengingly commercial.
Formed in 1975, and located in Clerkenwell for over twenty-five years, the practice has been responsible for some of the most familiar and memorable buildings on the London scene. Spanning over three decades, its reputation was made in the 1980’s with truly iconic buildings, particularly in London’s Docklands, with riverside schemes that gave the regeneration of the east of the city a new identity. Since then, larger, more complex projects encompassing master-planning, urban centre mixed use schemes, and public buildings have extended its skills and kept the practice lively and growing.
In 2006 CZWG Architects became a Limited Liability Partnership. In recognition of the need to evolve the practice and to prepare for expansion, seven new partners were invited to join the founding partners to take the practice into the future. With the new partners and a diverse team of skilled architects the practice is now equipped to take advantage of new development opportunities, here and abroad and progress its pursuit of a new modern and sustainable architecture.
