The concert centre Koncerthuset designed by renowned French architect Jean Nouvel, has a blue frontage, monumental, yet airy, as if the building had been carved out of the sky. The frontage is a semi-transparent screen and the images projected onto the vast surfaces create constantly varying impressions which make the whole structure look as if it is in motion, organic and alluring. The aural quality of the house has been ensured by Japanese acoustics experts Nagata Acoustics who were also behind La Philharmonie de Paris. Nouvel has also designed all interior elements of Koncerthuset. The shells on the outside of the Concert Hall (Studio 1) are clad with fibre-concrete, on the inside with rockwool and porous plaster. The concert hall foyer is one large room distributed over 7 levels – from c. 2.5m underground to c. 30m above ground level. The largest space that welcomes the public has a depth of 96m. Here 25 video projectors and 50 slide projectors show slides around the foyer.
