Moore Park Gardens (MPG) is one of Australia’s leading medium density residential developments. Located on the 2.6-hectare former Reschs Brewery site in East Redfern, inner Sydney, Moore Park Gardens showcases the extensive use of Ecologically Sustainable Design (ESD) and sophisticated urban design principles to create a community that is both livable and sustainable. The development was integrated with the surrounding community, by creating a number of buildings with their own identities and a series of quiet, publicly accessible open spaces across the site. A central road, Sir Charles Moore Avenue, and a series of landscaped courtyards link the high- and low-rise apartment buildings, which house a diverse mix of 560 apartments and a range of community facilities. The two towers utilise a crossover design that allows 90 per cent of the apartments to have cross-ventilation and a northern-orientated living area. Acting as the masterplanners, architects and interior designers for the project meant that Allen Jack+Cottier was able to create an integrated new neighbourhood which balances the needs of community with quality design.
