The museum is housed in the uppermost floor of a building constructed in 1983. Access to the exhibition space, is on this same level, up the very steep street that surrounds the building. We designed a solution adapted to the existing building, a shell inside a shell with its own autonomous personality. Thus we solved the problems created by the windows all around the outside walls and the doors into the atrium, the cross-vaulted ceilings – morphologically incompatible with the content and style, and unsuitable for acoustic reasons. The exhibition presents for the first time the developments on prehistoric Thera from the Neolithic Age until the 17th century BC.
