2nd DESIGN FOR LIFE

The multidimensional and multi-inclusive exhibition about design
returns on the 23 – 25 September 2011 @ the «MELINA» Cultural Center

The exhibition exclusively about design returns with its 2nd event dedicated to the masters of 20th century design but also to the Greek designers and architects of today that stand out with their dynamic attitude and proposals.

After the 1st exhibition’s success, the visitor’s of the 2nd DESIGN FOR LIFE will have the opportunity to be part of a rich experience with design works that embody the full spectrum of design history from past to present, leading to the future.

The exhibition’s main axis is 150 years of design, from Antoni Gaudi to Philippe Stark, with exhibits of designers and architects from design museums, galleries, privet collections and reproduction companies. Under this context, the exhibition includes the unit “museum classics” and the tribute to 3 important movements of the 20th century: "MEMPHIS", "ALCHIMIA" and "DE STIJL” (in conjunction (2011) with the exhibition "De stijl – Μondrian” at the Centre Pompidou in Paris).

Young Greek designers and design art studios are given more space this year to promote new materials and ideas. With some of their representative works, some of the participants are Point Supreme Architects, AFU, Alexandra Tsoukala, Zakopoulos-Meneghini, Nefeli Kontarini and Lydia Haida.

Greek architects, such as Theofanis Bobotis (BOBOTIS ARCHITECTS) and Alexandros Tripodakis, present 2 important projects that illustrate the dynamic design and talent of the architect. Also the architects Eleftherios Piskitzis and Thomas Gravanis present tensile constructions and Lighting Architecture respectively.

The 2nd DESIGN FOR LIFE is here to prove that contemporary design is resisting the gloominess caused by today’s economic crisis; it utilizes creatively emotional and rational elements of the times and offers new experiences.

The exhibition is carried out with the participation and support of known companies that hold leading positions in the representation of home - interior design – collection, lighting architecture, office design solution - contract - furniture – carpets, such as CASA DI PATSI, DELOUDIS, AVAX, KNOLL, FRITZ HANSEN, ARTEMIDE, HALO, SET, DESIGN PLAZA, MORE DESIGN, CHRISTOFLE, COLOMBO DESIGN, ΑΙΩΝ, LG, YAMAHA.

The exhibition’s organization and supervision is run by Angeliki Filandrianou and the AF DF team, who state that they “have taken on a challenge that can revive us from an uncertain future, because we are inspired from life itself”.

Under the exhibit’s context, a seminar will be held also this year on September 24th with the topic “Design in a world that changes”, the program of which will be announced soon.
