Following on from the recommendations made by the UIA Vision and Strategy Committee in Tokyo in October 2011, the President of the Africa Union of Architects (AUA), Chief Tokunbo Omisore, organised a Regional Presidents' Meeting in Tangiers in March 2012. On this occasion, the ACE President, Selma Harrington, met the President of ARCASIA, George Kunihiro, and the AUA President, Tokunbo Omisore. After the presentation of the current state of affairs in their Regional Organisations, the Presidents reflected on the effectiveness of representation of the architectural profession within these regions in the context of the global architectural community. Together they called on the UIA Council and the Vision and Strategy Committee to continue working on concrete proposals to strengthen and include the existing regional architectural organisations in effective cooperation. The Tangiers Declaration was signed between the Presidents of the three regional architectural organizations representative in Africa, Asia and Europe and endorsed by the President of FEPA, Jorge Monti, representative of Americas, through post meeting correspondence. For the ACE, the Tangiers Declaration is an important initiative supporting the rationalisation of international cooperation within the UIA and continuing strand of the ACE work, in particular with UIA Region I and II. |
