Architects Propose Rolling Hotel in Norway
date added: 03.01.2011

Swedish architects Jagnefalt Milton have proposed architectural locomotion for Åndalsnes, a town in Norway. A series of buildings would be built atop existing rail tracks in the city and could house various uses ranging from a rolling hotel to a rolling concert hall to a rolling public bath.

The proposal was awarded third prize of a master planning competition last Friday. Jurors appreciated the proposal’s reuse of existing infrastructure rather than creating areas of the city as well as the poetic and slightly surreal qualities of the design.

The architects wanted to establish a distinct identity for the town and literally set the place in motion with the rolling structures. The proposal emphasizes its flexibility in providing space and activity in various layouts at different times of the year. > blog.archpaper.com
