![]() An irregular pentagone This new Job Center is set widespread with a low building opening on a large reception hall to welcome the visitors. We took advantage of the strange original form of the site to design a unique irregular pentagon shaped structure scooped out in the middle. This building will be a key point of all the other public spaces around. ![]() A topographic building We have decided to offset the different levels of the building to organize it by programs corresponding to the three units : the Job center and family allowances, the Regional Council and the distric comity. An original façade has been designed for each program in order to identify them from outside. ![]() Offices running around the first floor garden The different programs of the building are organized around a central space with a garden at the first floor which brings a soothing and quiet atmosphere to the whole place. At the ground floor, an open double height space brings natural light inside the reception hall. With its huge glass walls, the structure is designed to benefit from the natural energies and reduce the dependance to fossil energies. As we know that natural light plays an important part in the working spaces, we placed it at the crossroads of the spaces. ![]() An easy circulation through the building With its double height opening, the atrium plays a key part in the disribution and visibility of the programs inside the building. At the center, a staircase leads directly the visitors to the services. The atrium offers a nice view on the garden at the first floor, flooding the hall with natural light filtered by the garden trees. We also included a performant signaling system in the building using a different colour for each level to guide the visitors. The Job Center provides a nice viewpoint to the local residents and contributes to create a lively neighbourhood. With its roof gardens and its atrium garden, the building fits in harmony with its environment creating a new green area in the district. ![]() Location: Nantes, France Architects: Serero Architects | David Serero, Emily Ottinger, Claire Guinguené, Jean-Baptiste Simon, Fabrice Zaini Engineering: OTE ingénierie Client: Nantes Aménagement Project area: 1510 sqm Completion year: January 2013 Budget: 2 300 000 € Images: Serero Architects |
