The first statue of the late Steve Jobs has been unveiled at architectural software maker GRAPHISOFT’s Budapest technology park. Realised by Hungarian sculptor Erno Toth, the bronze effigy has been created to honour the considerable relationship between Apple and GRAPHISOFT, after the charismatic Jobs discovered the ArchiCAD software in 1984 and threw the full weight of his Apple empire behind it.

GRAPHISOFT Founder and Chairman of the Board, Gabor Bojar, details: “Apple’s support included cash and computers at a time when GRAPHISOFT was a small company with limited resources, working within the economic and political confines of what was, at the time, communist Hungary.”

Jobs lost his battle with pancreatic cancer in October this year and his death was felt by millions of Apple’s clients and business partners worldwide. The entrepreneur has since been celebrated for his creative vision and innovative business ideas yet this is the first physical memorial in his name.

CEO of GRAPHISOFT, Viktor Varkonyi, explains: “With its attention to excellence in every detail, GRAPHISOFT Park’s environment embodies the spirit of Steve Jobs. I can’t think of a better place to commemorate the man and his legacy.”

Internet responses to the new statue have been mixed, some referring to the site as ‘a place of pilgrimage’ and others suggesting that: “The world does not need statues of marketing gurus.” What do you think? Let us know in our ‘Your Comments’ section.
