It’s one…. It’s many….it’s many…. it’s too many…. and then….it’s China.
Many things are etched in my mind from the trip to China. Etched in different ways. One thing, though, that was totally and absolutely new to me was a feeling I had. A feeling that followed me all the way from Beijing to Shangai and left me only when I set foot in Samos. B
There was something unsettling exhilarating in the though that you are always surrounded by 22 million people – twice the population of Greece! Especially when those 22 million are confined into the built environment of a city, of an urban fabric that doesn’t play by your rules.
You finally get how small you are. You are so small that you try feverishly to get bigger, either as a unit or as a part of the greatness of your nation. There is a certain power in numbers and I have no doubt that China will be a leading figure in the shaping of the near and distant future.
