Bio

Nil Aynali of Emre Arolat Architects was born in Izmir,Turkey in 1982. In 2005 she had Bachelor degree in Architecture at Istanbul Technical University and in 2007 Master degree in Architecture at Istanbul Bilgi University both with highest honour degrees. Meanwhile, she won national and international awards in student competitions.

She worked at Sauerbruch Hutton, Berlin in 2008 and at Avci Architects, Istanbul in 2009- 2010. She has contributed EASA-European Architecture Student Assemblies in 2008 as a tutor. She has been a part-time studio critic at Istanbul Bilgi University Graduate Program of Architectural Design in 2009-2010.

She is working at EAA-Emre Arolat Architects since 2010 as an architect, curator and editor. Her area of interest is design processes, conceptual frameworks and architectural attitudes in Emre Arolat Architects.

Emre Arolat, M. Architect
He was born in Ankara in 1963. He was graduated from Lycee de Galatasaray in 1982. He received his Bsc degree in Architecture in 1986 and Msc degree in 1992 at Istanbul Mimar Sinan University. He worked at Metcalf and Associates Architectural Office, Washington D.C. between 1986-1987. From 1987 to 2004, he has worked at Arolat Architects as associate designer with Saziment & Neset Arolat. He continues his practice in EAA-Emre Arolat Architects that he founded in 2004 with Gonca Pasolar. With the contributions of other partners, Neset Arolat, Saziment Arolat and Sezer Bahtiyar, EAA-Emre Arolat Architect’s practice is growing its office in Istanbul.

Since 1998, Emre Arolat has had teaching experiences at architectural design studios and project juries at several universities in Turkey, as Bursa Uludag University, IKU, ITU, METU, YTU and Bilgi University in Istanbul. He was among the founders of the Graduate Program in Architectural Design at Istanbul Bilgi University. He is teaching at architectural design studio in Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Department of Architecture. He has participated at various professional national and international conferences and seminars. His articles have been published at various professional media. He was awarded in several national and international design competitions, and has participated as jury member at many of them.

In 2006, one of his projects Dalaman International Airport Terminal building was awarded as “Highly Commended” in “AR Awards for Emerging Architecture”, being the first time among the participations from Turkey. Minicity Model Park building was among the “Selected Works” for “European Prize for Mies van der Rohe Awards 2005” and has awarded as “Commended” in “AR Awards for Emerging Architecture 2008”. Zorlu Center project with Tabanlioglu Architects was awarded by “Cityscape Dubai Special Award” in the category of “Master Planning” in 2008. Tekfen Kağıthane Offices and Milas Golf Hotel projects were awarded as “Commended” in “MIPIM Architectural Review Future Project Awards 2009”. Zorlu Center, Zorlu Konak Residences, Lara Kervansaray Hotel & Convention Center and Santralistanbul Museum of Modern Arts were awarded by “European Property Awards 2009”. 7800 Çeşme Residences & Hotel were awarded as “Mixed Use Building of the Year” by “Emirates Glass Leaf Awards 2009”, Santralistanbul Museum of Contemporary Arts was received “International Architecture Award 2010” and 7800 Çeşme Residences & Hotel, Folkart Narlıdere Housing, Kağıthane OfisPark and Raif Dinçkök Yalova Cultural Center projects were awarded as “Highly Commended” by 2010 European Property Awards”. Minicity Model Park and Maksimum Houses were awarded as “Best Leisure Building” and “Best Residential Building” by Cityscape Dubai Awards 2010. Zorlu Konak Residence, Bodrum Büyük Kulüp, Raif Dinçkök Yalova Cultural Center, Varyap Merkez Shopping & Cultural Center, Eyüp Municipality Marriage Hall, 7800 Çeşme Residences & Hotel and Minicity Model Park projects were awarded as “Highly Commended” by Cityscape Dubai Awards 2010. He received 2010 Aga Khan Awards for Architecture with Ipekyol Textile Factory building. “Varyap Merkez Shopping and Cultural Center” project was awarded in the “Retail and Leisure” category and “Zorlu Center” Project was awarded in the “Regeneration and Masterplanning” category by MIPIM AR Future Project Awards 2010. He received “Osman Hamdi Bey Award” by Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in 2011. “Zorlu Center”, “Yalıkavak Residences”, “Maslak No.1 Office Tower” projects received “Green Good Design Awards 2010 and “Sinpas Eco Town”, “Izmir Fair Complex” projects received “Green Good Design Awards 2011. He also received National Architecture Awards, in the category of “Design” and “Building” in 1992, 2002, 2004 and 2008, the “Award of New Prospects in Architecture” in 2000. In 2011 Dubai Cityscape Awards he received the grand prize with “ Raif Dinçkök Cultural Center” in the category of “Leisure Built”.
