Design philosophy

Architectus aims to achieve design excellence in all projects by a consistent focus on the following strategies.

Values and Needs – understanding client objectives, budget and social needs. This ensures we create design solutions that generate added value for our clients.

Understanding Function – development of a client brief and design criteria. We develop a clear understanding of the use of the project and plan for the most effective operation from the people involved.

Respect for Place – an appreciation of the wider impact of the development both local and universal. We are sensitive to the context of the development whether it is urban, suburban or rural.

Environmental Ethics – full understanding of the sustainability and ecological interdependence of the development. We consider the longer-term impact of the development on the built environment and on society.

Research and Education – a commitment to the highest standards of education and research on behalf of our clients. This involves the continuing education and training of our staff and transfer of knowledge between our staff, clients and the community.

Technology and Construction – assessment of methods and materials used in development. We strive to continually improve design and construction processes to ensure simplicity, performance and suitability.

Design as a Process – Maintaining the highest quality of design by research, innovation, communication and review throughout the project development.

Environmental policy

A diverse and healthy environment is intrinsically valuable and essential to a healthy society.

A sustainable society restores, preserves and enhances nature and culture for the benefit of all life (present and future).

The built environment plays a major role in the human impact on the natural environment and the quality of life.

A sustainable design integrates consideration of resource and energy efficiency, healthy buildings and materials, ecologically and socially sensitive land use, and aesthetic sensitivity that inspires, affirms and ennobles humanity.

Driven by our commitment to the environment, Architectus strives to:

– Place environmental and social sensitivity and sustainability at the core of our practice and professional responsibilities.
– Develop and continually improve our practices, procedures, services and standards that will enable the implementation of sustainable design.
– Educate our staff, fellow professionals, clients, the building industry, government and the general public about the importance of and available opportunities for sustainable design and appropriate environmental solutions.
