The Moat House

About The Moat House

The Moat House is a collection of stone buildings and barns arranged within a medieval moat dating from the 12th century which has been renovated into the home and workspaces. The glass house provides a unique opportunity in the context of a Grade II listed building to create a completely different sense of space.

The new building extends from the main living space, leaving the existing stone wall opening intact. It is 10m in length and cantilevers 4m over the moat. The size and proportions of the space are generous enough to allow for the building to read as a significant element in itself whilst the completely transparent facade minimizes the impact on the elevation of the building, disappearing during the day into the mature landscape.
