The Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes on the Anschutz Medical Campus reflects the two key aspects of the Center’s mission – clinical care and advanced diabetes research. Perhaps most importantly, the new building was designed with an emphasis on the children, young adults and families who are served by it.

The new Center sits on a location of great significance formally and symbolically at the heart of the Anschutz Medical Campus. The emphasis on children served by the Center was a central theme throughout the design process. The design team was charged with creating an architectural form that speaks to children, yet is consistent with the entire campus.

The Center itself is a four-story building with clinical space on the first two levels and research laboratories on the upper two levels. The new clinic is entered from a long, daylight-filled, two-story gallery along the eastern side of the building. Natural materials and earth-tones have been chosen to make the experience of families coming to the clinic as comfortable and stress-free as possible.
