The Lewis Glucksman Gallery on the grounds of University College Cork is a stunning, award-winning building from Irish architects O’Donnell + Tuomey. The gallery is beautifully located between the trees, along a river at the campus’ main entrance on Western Road. The Lewis Glucksman Gallery sees itself as a cultural and educational institution that promotes the research, creation and exploration of the visual arts. The building comprises interlaced exhibition spaces, lecture facilities and a gallery shop on the American oak-cladded upper floors and a riverside restaurant, service and ancillary functions in the limestone-clad base. The entrance level is glazed and opens to a public space at podium level. This podium mediates between the different landscape levels. Projecting windows on the upper floors provide natural light and selected views into the surrounding landscape and towards other buildings on the campus.
