A structure with two faces: from the front, compact, echoing the horizontal line of the road; from the courtyard, a vertically-structured concept with a surprise link into the site. The play of contrasts commences with the broad perspective through the block from the road and is continued in the spatial leap from the lofty customer hall to the low counter areas, in the juxtaposition of the large, smooth, light-coloured concrete flags of the frontage, the rough, dark, small-stoned facing masonry of the central walls which are set back and the fine tiling of the south facing grid of balconies. Located above the split-level trading area are three south-facing apartments whose north-west facing rooms also benefit from this aspect. Atmospherically speaking, architectural traditions have been left behind while, in terms of concept, analogous clarity and rationality have been retained.
