The National Museum of Modern Art in Kyoto, commonly reffered to as MOMAK opened on the site that is now present on March 1, 1963 as the Annex Museum of The National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo. Its building that used to be the auxiliary facility of The Kyoto Municipal Exhibition Hall for Industrial Affairs, was granted from Kyoto City after restoration. On June 1, 1967, The National Museum of Modern Art in Kyoto made his debute, ranaming after the Kyoto Annex Museum that previously was. The present building that designed by the architect Fumihiko Maki, a professor of Tokyo University, and his associates, was completed seventeen years later when the old building was dismantled. The current museum mad ehis opening officially to the people of Japan on October 26, 1986.
