From 1992 to 2001, the architect and artist Michal Motyčka studied at the Faculty of Architecture at the Czech Technical University in Prague. Practically at the same time, between 1995 and 2000, he studied at Marian Karel’s Studio of Glass in Architecture at the Academy of Arts Architecture and Design in Prague. He has also undertaken study placements at Emil Přikryl’s School of Architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and at the Rhode Island School of Design in the USA.

In his art he addresses the overlapping of architecture and present-day visual art. As an architect, he participated in the reconstruction of the Museum Kampa (2000-2001) and designed the building of the brewery and hotel MMX in Lety u Dobřichovic (2009-2010) and a private villa in Tuchoměřice (2010).

Since 1999, he has cooperated with the glass artist Václav Cigler. Together they have organized a whole range of exhibitions and artistic installations, e.g. Duch vznášející se nad vodami (The Spirit Floating above the Waters) in the reconstructed Church of the Discovery of the Holy Cross in Litomyšl (2014-2015) (01-8a). Together with Jana Šindelová he has issued a series of publications predominantly mapping the work of Václav Cigler.
